Strength for the Journey of a Woman

We will be praying for strength as mothers, to be able to fulfil our responsibilities properly.

The Lord has committed the building of the home into our hands; so if anything should go wrong in our homes, the Lord will hold us responsible.

Proverbs 14:1 (NKJV) The wise woman builds her house, but the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

1 Kings 19:7 (KJV) And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

This was Elijah after Jezebel had threatened to deal with him.

Please read Job chapters 1 and 2 on your own; because of our time we will not be able to do this. You can read it in both King James and Easy to Read version of the Bible.

From these chapters, let’s look at the following verses:

Job 1 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) 1 There was a man named Job who lived in the country of Uz. He was a good, honest man. He respected God and refused to do evil. Job had seven sons and three daughters. He owned 7000 sheep, 3000 camels, 1000 oxen, and 500 female donkeys. He had many servants. He was the richest man in the east.

  • Does this describe you or your husband or family?

Job 1:8 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV) Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him. He is a good, faithful man. He respects God and refuses to do evil.”

Job according to God’s recommendation in verse 8 was:

  • A  perfect (He is good) and upright man(faithful)
  • One that feared God (respects God)
  • He eschewed evil (refuses to do evil).
What Job’s children like doing because of their rich parents

Job 1:4 (KJV ) And his sons went and feasted in their houses, everyone his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.

  • They feasted in their houses; everyone have their own special day for eating and drinking.

What Job like doing

Job 1: 5  And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.

  • Job likes CURING BUT NOT PREVENTING his children from committing sin by offering burnt offering to God day after each of these parties.

What God expected from Job and his wife towards their children

Deuteronomy 11 (KJV) 1Therefore thou shalt love the Lord thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always. And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the Lord your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm,And his miracles, and his acts, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land;……..
But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the Lord which he did. Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it; And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.
16 Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; 17 And then the Lord's wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you. 18 Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes. 19 And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. 20 And thou shalt write them upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates:21 That your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which the Lord sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of heaven upon the earth.
Did Job and his wife do this to their children? NO.
So what happened? Job’s fear came upon him. His curing, that is offering burnt sacrifice on behalf of his children; did not prevent disaster. Satan struck at their unguarded hour when the children were busy doing what they know how to do best; eating and drinking.
Job 3:25-26 (KJV) 25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. 26 I was not in safety, neither had I rest, neither was I quiet; yet trouble came.
Job 1:18-19 (KJV) 18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: 19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.
These shall not be our portion in Jesus name. Amen.
In all these, where was the woman, the wife, the mother I asked? A woman whose responsibility is to build her home spiritually. Eventually I found her comment in
Job 2:9-10 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.10 But he said unto her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
Brothers and sisters we are going to start praying at this point; for ourselves as women and brothers, for your wives and then for our children.
