Imitate The Samaritan Woman

 John 4:4-7 

ü  Vs. 4-5 But He needed to go through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

Jesus left Judea for Galilee, but was constrained to go through Samaria. He was confronted with a need that He could not bypass. Mary the mother of Jesus constrained Jesus till He addressed the pending problem at the wedding (John 2). The widows perpetually coming propelled the unrighteous judge to action (Luke 18). Blind Bartimaeus’ persistence crying made Jesus stand still on His way out of Jericho to minister to him (Mark 10:46-50).

Does your heart cry constrain/detain Jesus to pass through your life; home; family; community or place of worship? Even, if that was not His intention? Has your travail inserted an additional stop to Jesus’ journey? Is Jesus confronted with a ‘need’ that He cannot ignore / bypass on account of our travail, however, feeble it may be?

·         Grant me grace such that my perpetual heart cry and coming will detain Christ to pass through my heart, home, community and nation.

·         I desire an infilling of the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of Grace and Supplication) so much so that I give God no rest till HE accomplishes and makes my life/home/family a praise in the earth.

·         Give me a heart that is unrelenting in prayers and with a pure motive to see God avenge me of my adversary, the devil.

·         Lord, grant me an appetite in prayer that is not satisfied to see you pass by but detained till YOU leave a tangible and indelible mark that is irreversible.

ü  Vs. 6-7 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. A woman of Samaria came to draw water.

Jesus was weary from the journey but did not resort to an inn or an eatery; instead He went to the well. This weariness does not appear to be that which makes one hungry for physical food even though the disciples went in search for food. Maybe, it was weariness of soul- longing for fellowship; to see all men come to the knowledge of the truth. Weariness brought on because Jesus saw the veil that covered men’s heart and he could not perform miracles in some cities due to their unbelief. It was a weariness that made HIM go to Abraham to off load His heart and plan to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. Knowing, fully well that Abraham will intercede and intervene (Gen 18: 16-19).    

• Lord, please do not let my life add to whatever makes Jesus weary.
• Let my life/travail address the weariness in the heart of Christ for lost souls and prodigal children.
• Help me daily take a trip to the Well to draw water (the Word).
• Give me an appetite for fresh water (the Word) instead of stagnant or stored water.
• Make me the woman Jesus will always find at the well to off load HIS heart to; engage with and be rest assured that I will intercede and intervene.
• Let my communion with Jesus strip me of all my water-pots (relics of the old nature) and make me a gateway/channel to lead multitudes to JESUS.

Genesis 38: 1-30

Background 

Ø  Married Judah’s firstborn Er. He was wicked in God’s sight and the Lord killed him. 

Ø  Tamar was offered to Onan, he also did what displeased the Lord and the Lord killed him also. 

Ø  Tamar was told to remain a widow in her father’s house till Shelah is grown. And she did. 

Ø  Tamar was a woman who lived before the Cross (before Calvary). 

Qualities 

Ø  Very traditional, conversant with her culture and obedient to that culture. 

Ø  Patient.

Ø  Teachable.

Ø  Full of wisdom 

Ø  Righteous.

Ø  Not promiscuous.

Ø  Accustomed to waiting .

Ø  Forsaken all (pride, dignity, self).

Ø  Not bothered about what people will say.

Ø  Not concerned with claiming any right.

Lesson 

Ø  She knew the right thing to do at the right time.

Ø  She was not a woman full of bitterness despite all she went through.

Ø  Ready to move on at every stage, not looking back.

Ø  For us as women in travail, let us learn not to speak into situations when we do not have the full fact-

Reward

Ø  Fulfilled Scripture Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose”.

PRAYER

    Ask God for a fresh in-filling of the Holy Spirit to be in control of all our lives. 

  Help me, Lord, to seek first Your kingdom in all things and I know every other thing will be added. 

   Give me wisdom for very task ahead. 

  As a woman in travail, teach me to bridle my tongue, to know when to speak and when to be silent.

   Father keep me near the Cross, keep me inside Jesus Christ.

n  The life-setting of Miriam

         -The older sister of Moses.

         -A prophetess and the women leader of those that fled from Egypt.

         -A joint-missioner with Moses and Aaron (Exodus 15:20-21).

         -Watched over baby Moses while sailing on the water (Exodus 2:1-10).

         -Preserved the deliverer in Moses by taking a bold step. 

n  Miriam's Carelessness – Numbers 12:1-16

         -Grudged the advancement of Moses.

         -Drew her brothers into quarrel.

         -Strove to be the greatest.

         -Touched the honour of God's chosen.

         -Spoke ill of her brother(Moses).

      Prayer: Ephesians 1:18 

Lord, flood my life with Your light, search me and rid me of anything that beclouds me in the place of prayer. Let Your light outshine any form of darkness that is targeting my heart. Let my heart cease from all strivings.

      Phillipians 4:7 

Lord, grant me Your peace that is far beyond all things. As I live in you, guard my heart at all times. Channel my heart towards everything that pleases You oh God! Baptise my heart afresh with Your fire and plant my feet in Your Truth. 

  

  Lord, help me not to touch Your glory in my life. Have mercy on me and let Your love reign supreme in every area of my life. Please continue to shed Your love abroad in my heart by the power of the Holy Spirit; so I can see others the way You see them in Jesus name!

 Lord, set a guard upon my heart against any form of worldliness or contamination. Shield my heart from the cares of this world and grant me divine enablement to conform to Your image at all times.

Hadassah – A Woman Prepared for the Deliverance of Her Generation

Esther 2: 1- 17

¹² Each young woman’s turn came to go into King Ahasuerus after she had completed twelve months’ preparation, according to the regulations for the women, for thus were the days of their preparation apportioned: six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with perfumes and preparations for beautifying women. ¹³ Thus prepared, each young woman went to the king, and she was given whatever she desired to take with her from the women’s quarters to the king’s palace.

Every woman has a physical womb, to carry a foetus to term. The maturation of a womb in order to carry a child to term involves a process. The womb can form, accommodate and produce children - one, two, three or more (if drugs are taken). Apart from the physical womb, God expects my heart to accommodate many. To become a travailing woman in my generation, the womb of my heart must be enlarged. For Hadassah i.e. Esther, her making into destiny was not automatic. Esther’s preparation as a young woman was emphasised in the book of Esther chapter 2. It involved a process – a balanced process to fulfil God's purpose for her life. 

Discipleship is the balanced process I must go through. It will prepare me as it prepared Esther for the fulfilment of her purpose - the deliverance of her people in her generation. My preparation through discipleship cannot be overemphasised, if I will carry and deliver many lives (husband, children, relatives, friends, disciples, nations etc.) from the decadence, evil, devastation and corruption in this generation, (Esther 2: 7; 12- 13).

Esther was of the fifth generation in captivity after the generation of Mordecai, Jair, Shimei, and Kish. Regardless of my status, it is for God’s purpose. This implies that the so-called captivity I might have found myself in as a single, married woman is for God’s purpose. Thus, it is a not determinant factor of what God wants to do in my life and generation because the Lord knows that there is SUCH  A TIME  that will arise in my lifetime and generation (Esther 4:14). 

• In my captivity Lord, please find me useable (Esther 2 vs5).
• Connect me to my Mordecai and Hegai, who will prepare me for the fulfilment of Your in my life.
• May my heart be found willing Lord to come as you call on me regardless of the natural occurrences (joy, sufferings, blessings, pains) around my life – Esther vs. 2: 2- 7
• Do a work in me that will make me and prepare me for the deliverance of my generation. Lord, complete the work you have started in me.
• Beautify my life for Your glory Lord. Make me fair for You Lord (Psalm 45; Esther 2: 7b).
• Lord, please let the compelling need, passion and desire for change, divine transformation overwhelmed my heart that I will no longer be at ease in Zion until I become what you have purposed me to be - a woman in travail building lives on my knees.
• Make me sensitive to the needs of my generation (groaning, pains, cry etc.) in which I have found myself, my Lord.  

A quiet, obedient woman (vs. 10) – very obedient, (how many times have I been charged not to reveal, say or do something and I have disobeyed?).

• Grant me the grace that will make my obedience complete (spiritually, physical, character, morally, financially etc.) so that you can avenge all disobedience in my life and this generation.

⁷ For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God;⁸ but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned.

And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter, for she had neither father nor mother (Esher 2 vs. 7). Hadassah means a myrtle - a perennial shrub with white flowers that were used for perfume.

A woman in travail seek to be profitable to the Lord, she seeks help so that she can help others by studying the word of God, praying always, obedient to disciplers so that her root can become deepen in Christ until she experienced transformation and can bring change to her own generation. What are you bringing up for the Lord on your knees?

• Lord, let me pour all my life into discipleship. Let me not be a truant like Vashti. When you call to beautify my life either openly or secretly, let me respond appropriately.
• Make me perennial (recurrent, perpetual, continuing, persistent, lasting) spiritual woman in Your Kingdom – rooted, planted and fruiting in Christ. I don’t want to be an annual, vegetable, biennial (periodic) child of God.
• All Your investment yield all You want (Hebrews 6 vs 7).
• Let me not bear thorns or bring forth thorns in any areas of my life. Lord do not reject me let alone near cursing (Hebrews 6 vs 8). if there are nay areas my life is producing thorns or in the lives of my children, Lord please show mercy today.
• Enlarge my heart to be able to accommodate and bring up all the children (husbands, biological children, disciples, persecuted children, uncles, brothers, aunts, cousins, neighbours, employees, employers), nations etc. you have given to me (like Mordecai and Hegai).
• Lord, strengthen my feeble knees in the place of prayer. Make me a praying woman.
• Lord, make me spiritual (woman, wife, mother, relative, friend, daughter-in-law, neighbour, employee, citizen, employers, employees, students, business partners, etc.).
• Let me be an Esther (full baked). Let me not be half baked like Vashti who eventually missed out because of a single feast (Esther 2: 4 & 17).
